Biography: Huey Lewis is an American singer and songwriter, perhaps best known for the scene in American Psycho where Patrick Bateman, played by Christian Bale, references his band: Huey Lewis and the News. They are also known by an older generation for their best-selling album Sports (1983) and their work on the Back to the Future (1985) soundtrack.

Lewis' stepfather was the poet Lew Welch, and this relationship was an early inspiration for him. He went on to hitchhike across America and Europe, busking with harmonica and developing his musical talents. He returned to the United States and took up an engineering degree, but eventually dropped out to pursue music full-time.

While he was initially a part of the band Clover, with which he had some success, but it was not until he left this that he would come to form the group that became Huey Lewis and the News. This group released their debut album to limited attention, but eventually broke through with their album Picture This (1982).

The band had their first big hit with "Do You Believe in Love" (1982), and then went on to release their most popular album in 1983: Sports. This had four top-10 singles: "Heart and Soul," I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll," and "If This Is It."
